I tired to log onto my own gmail account on the computer of someone else who has a gmail account. The short answer: I could not do it. Google has changed. in my Chrome browser, if I click the 'Sign out' button I am definitely signed out. I can try as I might to open Gmail or any other Google app but just get the login screen every time.
